What Exactly is Coaching

When did you last have someone’s undivided attention, where their total focus was on you, on what you want in your life and on what will help you achieve it?
The coaching relationship is about exactly that – helping  you to become crystal clear about what you want and supporting you as you move into action in order to achieve your goals.

When did you last have a conversation where you felt really listened to and not judged or advised on what you ‘ought’ to do?
Coaches may employ many techniques but by far the most potent is conversation. We're not talking about the type of chat you may have with your best friend – it’s conversation that makes a difference. It may seem informal and unstructured. It isn't! It's about asking powerful questions and then really listening, not only to your answers but also to what's behind them. The right question can reveal possibilities that you may never even have thought of.

When was the last time anyone was really curious about your dreams and aspirations, what makes you tick, what you value and what you’re most passionate about in your life?
It is this curiosity that will help you get to the essence of who you are - what really matters to you, what you stand for, what excites you, what you hold dear and what has to be honoured in your life for you to feel fulfilled. Your coach will help you identify areas where your values are being compromised and ensure your current goals are in alignment with your core values.

When was the last time someone stood firmly in your corner and encouraged you to hold true to your own values and beliefs?
Your coach will be there to celebrate your victories, help you learn from your setbacks and encourage you to press on when the going gets tough. When obstacles threaten to challenge your resolve, your coach will remind you of your strengths and hold you to your agenda to keep your vision alive.

Your coach will challenge you to finally break free of the self-limiting thoughts you’ve been having over the years (you know the ones....the too old, too late, too risky type of thoughts) and encourage you to recognise them for what they are - the voices of self sabotage.

The coaching relationship is all these things. The power of this alliance is that the energy, commitment and experiences are all directed to making positive improvements in the life of one unique person - you. There is no agenda other than to help you succeed.

When was the last time someone offered you that?
