Life coaching helped me put everything into perspective.  Karen was incredibly supportive and believed in me and my goals. With her support I embarked on further training and I already have my business cards printed up.

I hope you've had chance to read about midlife coaching because that will give you a better idea of who my clients are. If you recognise yourself in the feelings expressed there, then you'll know you're in the right place.

I know you probably have loads of questions, so I've tried to pre-empt some of them by putting the most frequently asked questions altogether here. And of course, if the question you want answered isn't here, just hop over to the contact page and ask away!

What actually happens in a coaching session?

Well, in a 1:1 personal coaching session, we talk! I have a variety of tools and techniques in my coaching 'kitbag' but the most powerful one of all is conversation!  This is NOT the type of chat you may have with your best friend – it’s conversation that makes a difference. It may seem informal and unstructured. It isn't! There is no agenda other than to help you succeed - it's about YOU achieving your full potential.

In reality, this conversation helps you:

  • get to the essence of who you are now

  • reveal possibilities that you may never even have thought of

  • finally understand what really matters to you

  • express and uncover those areas of your life that are being being compromised or neglected

  • challenge you to finally break free of the self-limiting thoughts you’ve been having

In the Home Study PLUS Programme, you work with me in an interactive online programme - I'm there with you in the audios and videos, talking and coaching you through the process! Here you'll find exercises, practical tools and strategies to help you quickly discover WHAT you truly desire for the next stage of your life and HOW to get it. It is so much more powerful than just reading the written word - you are interacting with this programme and with me, your coach. (And the PLUS bit is, you also get 1:1 telephone coaching too!)

How do I know if coaching is for me?

This is a hard question for me to answer but the bottom line is this... if you keep doing what you've always done, then you'll keep getting what you've always got.  Using a professional life coach is a commitment to yourself and to finding ways to do the things that are important to you.  If you’re not willing to take action and do something to improve your current situation, coaching won’t be the right path for you at this time. If you are willing to do something - and if you're reading this, I suspect you are - then coaching will help you get to the destination you know is right for you, much, much faster and easier than trying to go it alone.

your life… wishing you had." ~J Paulsen

But what if I don't know WHAT I want?

You're not the only one who feels like this - many of my clients have felt the same way, at the beginning of their life-changing journeys - knowing only what they don't want or simply that they want 'more' from life. The fact that you are here at this website tells me that you DO know that you want something different to what you've currently got - and that, believe it or not is a great place to start - in fact the only place to start is where you are right now. You know that you want to 'change for the better' - finding and defining WHAT those changes are is a big part of our work together. Once you get that clarity, it's then a matter of focusing on what you want and taking action (however small) to begin to make change a reality.

The question you need to ask yourself is 'What is the likely outcome if I do nothing?'  because there is an enormous cost to NOT living consciously, authentically and creatively.

Am I the right coach for you?

I really hope so... but I’m well aware of just how difficult it is to 'connect' with someone through the pages of a website. I really hope you feel you now know a little more about me and my coaching style. In my experience, an effective coaching relationship need a few 'fundamentals' in place for it to be really successful. We are a partnership and a collaboration so we need to be on the same wavelength to work well together - you need to be confident that I 'get' you and I need to be sure that I can help you implement the changes you wish to see in your life.

Meanwhile, here are a few things for you to consider when looking for a coach to work with:

  • Identify your key search criteria, for example....
Do you want to work face to face, via the telephone or online?
Is the gender of your coach important to you?

  • Look for someone who has experience or insight into the specific problems or challenges you face.

  • Look around their website to get a feel for who they are, their background, qualifications and coaching style.

  • Talk to them....it's all about the relationship.  One of the keys to coaching is chemistry and the only way to discover this, is to talk first before making the decision.

  • Trust your instincts.

I should be able to do this myself - why do I need a coach?

Yes of course it's entirely possible that if you set off on a journey to an unknown destination... alone... without a map you might end up somewhere you're happy to stay! But your midlife journey into the territory of change is very precious and coaching provides a safe environment to guide and support you through this unfamiliar landscape.

The theory of change is pretty simple but in practice it's often a complex, challenging and painful process. Change doesn't happen just through passively waiting or hoping and no matter how much we learn or how many self help books we read, nothing will work for us until we take action. If it were that easy you'd have done it by now and as much as you may know what you 'should' be doing, the question is....are you actively DOING it?

What's the best thing to do if I'm just not sure?

The thought of initiating any sort of change can be overwhelming but there is obviously a reason why you are here right now. If you don't feel ready just now, please don't leave without doing something.  So, I'd like to offer you a couple of ways to "try before you buy..."

  • Book a free 20 minute coaching consultation
You may like my website, its tone and its message..... but you're perhaps still not sure if the Finding a Future That Fits programme is right for you, or if one of the 1:1 options would be better. Well, why not book a free 20-minute consultation? This gives you a chance to  ask your questions and we can have an exploratory chat to look what's going on for you at present and discuss ways in which I may be able to help you. It's an opportunity to get a taste of how I work and see if I am the right coach for you. There is no obligation whatsoever - there's absolutely no point choosing a coach you don't feel compatible with or a coaching programme that won't offer the solutions you seek.

  • Sign up to my free video program
If you do nothing else, use the form here below to sign up to my free  video program - 3 Steps to a Truly Transformative Midlife.  Each part contains a 5 minute video followed by a self-coaching exercise to help you start thinking about the changes you'd like to introduce into your life.
